The CA DMV central office in Sacramento has a lecture series called Disabilities - Possiblities. The lecture series is presented with the idea that disability is a part of every person and every family’s life at some time and therefore everyone needs to learn about disability. They want to provide information about disabilities and the resources available to help people live their best quality of life with the disability.
The demo/presentation will be in a conference room over a lunch period and will last officialy for 50 minutes, but answering questions may go a little longer. This sounds like a great opportunity to get the word out about CCI to a lot of people as they will invite everyone in the whole building (population of 3200) to come out to the demo. They have also asked to video tape the presentation so it can be shown to employees over the internal website and throughout all of the field offices in the entire state for employee training. If interested in participating and for more info, check out the volunteer page for this demo.
The date is fixed and the time is approximate. The location is coming.
They have some specific ideas on what they would like us to cover as this is going to be used state wide in their offices. One question they have asked that we can really not answer, but we can talk about is how to tell if a dog is an assistance dog, as they are constantly having this question asked by the various offices. We will also briefly cover puppy raising and there is the possiblity we can get some potential puppy raisers from this demo, but it is not the main point to be covered.
They woud like us to have our dogs (we really need a service dog) work for us and demonstrate what our dogs can do for someone. We will also cover how our dogs are used and the different dogs offered by CCI and the different tasks they are trained for. We should also cover Facility dogs. A usual presentation, but one we need to have somewhat scripted so we can cover everything they need.
If you are interested in volunteering and/or have ideas on the presentation, please contact me at wwstrand@mac.com
